Separate cleaning completion from maintenance verification

A clean property can still have a leaking toilet, weak lock battery, failed detector, or warming refrigerator. Give the turnover inspector a short equipment-and-safety sequence in addition to the cleaning list.

Require a photo and work order for unresolved damage or defects. That creates a dated record, gives the repair person useful context, and prevents the same issue from being rediscovered by the next guest.

Adapt safety and amenity checks to the property, local requirements, and manufacturer instructions. Pools, spas, elevators, fireplaces, and fuel-burning appliances need their own qualified-service routines.

Frequently asked questions

Should this replace a cleaning checklist?

No. Use it alongside the cleaning checklist. This version focuses on equipment condition, safety devices, damage, leaks, access, and turning every unresolved problem into accountable repair work.

What should cleaners do when they find a defect?

Capture a photo, identify the room or equipment, describe whether the property remains usable, and create or submit a repair request before leaving the property.

How often should smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms be checked?

Include a quick operational check in turnovers where practical, and follow the device manufacturer and applicable local requirements for documented testing, batteries, and replacement age.
